SAA-UW would like to thank everyone who came to our first ever open meeting last night. We generated a lot of new ideas and got a good idea of where we’d like to guide the organization. A topic that came up more than once during our meeting was the current state of archival education at the UW and elsewhere. Volume 2 of Yale’s Journal of Contemporary Archival Studies features an article titled “Graduate Archival Education in the United States; A Personal Reflection About Its Past and Future” by Professor Richard J. Cox. Cox specializes in Archives, Preservation, and Records Management at the University of Pittsburgh’s School of Information Science. His reflections and predictions are relevant to the UW’s MLIS program and certainly worth a read. The full article available at the JCAS web site here.
